Why Choose Us
“Credentials Matter, Experience Counts”
The Joint Commission evaluated our office initially in 2006 and again in 2009 and 2012. In Maine and in New England, we are the only Joint Commission accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical office. Patient safety comes first and accreditation is the only external means to ensure that an office puts safety first. So when choosing an office for your surgical needs look for the Joint Commission seal.
All of our surgeons have dental and medical degrees. The knowledge acquired over 14 years of training leads to well trained surgeons. The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have certified all our doctors as Diplomates. This means they are all “Board Certified”. Drs Moyer and Zajkowski have even been recertified recently as they have been in practice more than 10 years. Make sure your surgeon has recertified.
In 2013, our doctors all became Fellows of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). This is one of the most prestigious organizations in healthcare, and is focused on quality care of the surgical patient as well as surgical education. Very few oral and maxillofacial surgeons meet the rigorous standards and requirements to become fellows, but our doctors do. In fact, no other oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Maine are members. This affirms our commitment to our patients and the community to raise the bar for quality surgical care that is unmatched by any other practice.
Credentials do matter. Look to see what kind of training your surgeon has undergone.
We only have one office in South Portland near the Maine Turnpike and I-295. We view this as a benefit to our patients as we are easily accessible and can quickly accommodate appointments with four surgeons in one location. Our surgeons share an office, which fosters a collegial atmosphere allowing us to review challenging or complex cases.
State of the Art Technology:
Paperless Record: We strive to maintain a modern surgical office in all aspects of patient care. We use an electronic medical record instead of a traditional chart. Our tablet computers, signature pads, and digital xray machines capture everything and significantly reduce our paper usage making us an eco friendly office! Our records are stored on an encrypted server.
Our office uses digital radiographs. Our 3D Extraoral Imaging Systerm boasts the highest resolution and the lowest radiation in its class! That means we take radiographs with a fraction of the radiation used to expose film based radiographs.
We use a 3D Extraoral Imaging System that allows us to better visualize tumors, challenging impacted teeth, and dental implants for treatment planning. This imaging system has taken the guess work out of placing dental implants. We are able to virtually perform the surgery on a 3D image of the jaw.
Many patients feel anxious about visiting a dentist or oral surgeon. Our staff strives to make patients comfortable during their entire visit. We have staff members who have worked for the practice for over 10 years who are well-equipped to help with worries or concerns about an upcoming procedure. Administrative and nursing staff treat all patients with compassion in an attempt to deliver the best care possible.
The staff and doctors of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates take pride in giving back. We help by caring for underserved children and adults. We have donated to many local and national charities including: programs for the homeless, local schools, food pantries, military families in Maine, The Maine Cancer Foundation, Share Our Strength Maine, and Adopt-A-Platoon.
